Explanation
Deeper explanation: Psychagogy asks not only what discourse communicates but how it leads a person into a particular configuration of attention and judgement. Argument, rhythm, imagery, voice, ethos and situation may act together. Historically, such guidance includes both defensible persuasion and concealed or problematic direction. It may enable reflection, learning or therapeutic reorientation, but the label does not itself confer ethical legitimacy. Precisely because its effects can begin before every reason is made explicit, its purpose, distribution of roles, relation to truth and openness to dissent must also be examined. Scientific use case: Research on science communication can examine how the same data generate different dispositions through narrative order, speaker ethos and image selection. A study should compare not only attitude change but also understanding, source checking, willingness to object and persistence of the effect.
Example
A climate scientist does not open with a catastrophic statistic. She first asks the audience to describe the familiar seasonal cycle of their own place and only then connects these memories to longitudinal measurements. The data remain open to verification but acquire a different affective and temporal proximity.
Counterexample
Producing an emotion without any discernible role in judgement or readiness to act does not yet constitute psychagogy in the strong sense. Transparency, openness to dissent, relation to truth and autonomy do not determine whether an effect may historically be called psychagogic; they determine how it should be evaluated ethically and scientifically. Concealed direction and exploited dependency mark its turn into manipulation.
Distinction
Pathos names an affective dimension, Ethos the stance manifested by a voice, Kairos situational timing and Framing the selection and weighting of attention. Psychagogy names one possible directed conjunction of these means. Resonance remains an Atlas metaphor here, not a sufficiently evidenced technical relation. All other links remain proposals.
Effect on thought and perception
Psychagogy reveals that reasons do not reach people outside attention, feeling and relationship.
Resonance
Discourse does not guide like a rail. It alters a field of resonance in which some reasons become more audible and others recede.
