Explanation
Clitics occupy a position between free words and affixes. They have syntactic functions but usually do not carry their own stress and require a phonetic host.
Example
In “geht’s,” the shortened “es” is attached to the verb.
Counterexample
“un-” in “unruhig” is an affix and not an independent syntactic element.
